My Crush's Crush Manga Gets TV Anime Adaptation

Sekina Aoi and Ryo Tsuzura’s romantic comedy manga My Crush’s Crush (Boku no Suki na Hito ga Suki na Hito) is officially getting a television anime adaptation. Manga artist Tsuzura released a commemorative illustration alongside the August 27 announcement, although a premiere date, animation studio, staff, and voice cast have not yet been revealed.

The adaptation brings another of Aoi’s works to television following series including GAMERS! and Student Council’s Discretion. My Crush’s Crush has been serialized in Hakusensha’s Young Animal Zero since November 2022, with its seventh collected volume released in Japan on August 28, 2026. The story follows Sora Akizuki through an increasingly complicated chain of unrequited crushes after the girl he likes reveals that she has feelings for someone else.

Yen Press also announced at Anime NYC 2026 that it has licensed the manga for English publication, giving the series a path to North American readers ahead of its anime debut. An English release date has not yet been announced, and no international streaming plans for the anime have been confirmed.

MANGA MIRAI Service to Shut Down in December

NTT DOCOMO will shut down its U.S. digital manga service MANGA MIRAI at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on December 15, 2026. New account registration, manga purchases, app distribution, and in-app reading already ended on August 19, although existing customers can continue reading purchased titles through the MANGA MIRAI website until the service closes.

Customers who want to keep access to eligible purchases will need to create or maintain a MangaPlaza account using the same email address as their MANGA MIRAI account by September 30. MangaPlaza, operated by NTT Solmare, will begin making eligible transferred titles available around the shutdown date. Some purchased titles may not transfer because MangaPlaza lacks the necessary licenses, while users under 18 are also ineligible because MangaPlaza requires users to be adults. Customers affected by those restrictions will receive separate instructions about refunds.

MANGA MIRAI launched in the United States in March 2025 through a partnership between NTT DOCOMO, Akatsuki Group, Media Do, and MyAnimeList. It grew from more than 780 titles at launch to roughly 2,400 titles and 28,000 volumes before DOCOMO announced that it would discontinue the service “in light of the current business environment.”

Yang Can't Live Alone Leaves Square Enix

Yang Can't Live Alone creator sooncha is moving the manga away from Square Enix following a breakdown in trust with the Manga UP! editorial department. The series ended its Manga UP! serialization with Chapter 15.3 in August, and sooncha has since said the publishing rights are being withdrawn from Square Enix so the manga can continue under another company. The identity of the new publisher has not yet been announced.

The change also affects currently available editions. Japanese digital retailers list Square Enix editions as ending sales on August 31 at 11:59 p.m. JST, while physical copies will no longer be distributed by Square Enix once existing stock is exhausted. Sooncha has indicated that revised physical and digital editions are planned under the new publisher, but details have not yet been released.

The English situation remains less clear. Square Enix Manga & Books still lists an English Volume 1 for September 15 and Volume 2 for December 8, while digital English chapters have also been appearing through Manga UP!. With the publishing relationship now ending, readers should treat those future English release plans as subject to change until Square Enix or sooncha provides an updated announcement.

American Manga Awards 2026 Winners Announced

The third annual American Manga Awards were held August 20 at Japan Society in New York City, recognizing manga released for readers in the United States and Canada along with the publishing and localization teams behind them. Billy Bat, published by Kana and Abrams ComicArts, won Best New Manga, while The Summer Hikaru Died Vol. 6 from Yen Press took Best Continuing Manga Series and Machiko Kyo’s Cocoon from VIZ Media won Best One-Shot Manga.

Other winners included Kodansha’s Mushishi Collector’s Edition Vols. 1–2 for Best New Edition of Classic Manga, Jan Mitsuko Cash for translating Magica Vol. 1, Madeleine Jose for lettering Maid to Skate, and Wendy Chan for the publication design of Fruits Basket: The Complete Box Set. The awards also honored Princess Jellyfish creator Akiko Higashimura with the American Manga Award of Distinction, which she accepted in person while visiting New York for Anime NYC.

The ceremony additionally inducted publishing veterans Chigusa Ogino and the late Ioannis Mentzas into the Manga Publishing Hall of Fame. By recognizing translators, letterers, designers, publishers and creators alongside the manga themselves, the awards continue to highlight the broader group of professionals responsible for bringing Japanese manga to North American readers.

Detective Conan Film-Adaptation Manga Ends in September

The manga adaptation of Detective Conan: The Private Eyes' Requiem will conclude in the next issue of Shōnen Sunday S, scheduled for release in September. Yutaka Abe and Jirō Maruden launched the adaptation on February 24, 2026, bringing the franchise’s tenth theatrical film to manga form nearly 20 years after its original 2006 release.

The Private Eyes' Requiem places Conan and several other detectives in a race against time after Ran, the Detective Boys, and others are taken hostage at an amusement park. The adaptation credits original Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama alongside Abe and Maruden, as well as film director Yasuichiro Yamamoto and screenwriter Hiroshi Kashiwabara.

Abe and Maruden have previously adapted several other Detective Conan films into manga, including Countdown to Heaven and Dimensional Sniper. The ending of The Private Eyes' Requiem continues that long-running series of film-to-manga adaptations and does not indicate any change to the wider Detective Conan manga, anime, or future film projects.
